Well I have finally begun to master "Home on the Range". I have yet to figure out a way to make a video of it without my camera but as soon as I get it back I will post a video. For now, you will just have to trust me when I say that it has been coming along quite well. My dad even complimented me on it the other day when he heard me practicing. So basically, I am going to be a famous harmonica player soon ;) But in all seriousness, I am actually really happy with how it is going. I was surprised the other day when my dad picked up his harmonica and just starting playing "Oh Susanna" because I had completely forgotten that he had taught himself how to play & that was before the internet. It made me realize that it is completely do-able; I just really need to put the time and effort into it. Like I said, I have the advantage because I have online resources I can use now to learn, something my dad didn't have when he taught himself how to play. I'm hoping his skill is some kind of indication that my family is gifted when it comes to learning how to play the harmonica.
Before I even really began the 20% project, I encountered an online harmonica club (http://www.harmonicaclub.com/), where I found tons of sheet music people from around the world had compiled. This is where I found the version of "Home on the Range" I have been focusing on. While I continue to learn how to breath while playing the harmonica, I want to figure out what my next piece of music will be. My dream is to learn "On the Bayou" so maybe that will be the next song I tackle. For now, I am going to focus my efforts on learning how to breath properly (I found some really great sources for this and started watching a couple videos to become better). There is a version of the song on the harmonica club's website so I might try that one. As always, I will continue to keep you updated on my harmonica adventures!
