I have begun to create my DPP by making my first screencast and quiz. Here is the link to my very first part of the lesson: http://blnds.co/1fvLWcw
I began my unit on tide pools by explaining what tide pools are and how to know when the best time to visit the tide pools is. It is important to know when to go in order to actually see critters and algae of the sea. Tide pools are incredibly fascinating places because of the diversity and the almost "martian" looking critters. It is especially fun to share your knowledge with others around you. I hope through my DPP I can help you become confident enough to share some information when tide pooling.
I took a little visit to the tide pools with one of my friends (shout out to Alyssa) and I realized just how necessary it is to include some tide pool etiquette in my lessons. There are some do's and don't's of tide pooling that I am going to include in a later segment. You need to know what is appropriate and what is not acceptable when you enjoy the natural surroundings. You are going into a natural habitat for millions of organisms and you need to know how to treat them with respect. It is sometimes inevitable that you will step on barnacles and limpets or accidentally crunch a sea snail or hermit crab. However, you need to avoid this as much as possible, carefully watching where you are going and some other tips to help you be a safe and thoughtful tide pool-er. So I have decided that, once you have watched enough videos to feel like a competent tide pool-er, I will create one that will help you get ready to go out and explore all that is wonderful of this little slice of the ocean!
I look forward to sharing future with you that will help you understand what types of creatures live in this habitat and how they survive.
