I have figured out what the newest song I am going to learn is. I was browsing the multitude of songs on the harmonica club website (www.harmonicaclub.com) and came across one of my absolute favorite Church songs--"How Great Thou Art". I love this song for so many reasons but I never really imagined it would be a harmonica type of song. I decided to click on the link and play around with it and found that I loved it on the harmonica. I starting to try to add more emotion into my playing and this song is really perfect for practicing that because it has such a rich sound to it.
Immediately after realizing that this is the next song to learn, I began my practicing. Because it is about the same level of difficulty as the arrangement of "Home on the Range" that I was learning, I was able to pick it up fairly quickly. However, unlike "Home on the Range", this song goes from high notes to low notes pretty quickly and I do not make these transitions very smoothly. Hopefully this song will help me become better at moving around on the harmonica rather than staying on the same three or four closely aligned notes.
For those of you who have no idea what this song is, I have added a video of one of my favorite country singers singing this song. So without further ado, here is Alan Jackson singing "How Great Thou Art".

I look forward to working on this over the next couple of days and I will upload a video of my progress. In my coming videos I hope to show better transitions between notes, smoother and without hitting multiple notes along the way. After I have accomplished this I want to begin learning more about bending notes. But I will get into that in later blog posts (I am also working on trying to not get too far ahead of myself). For now, I hope to just become a smoother basic harmonica player, then I will move into more complicated techniques.
